Ouma is a consultant with JSC. He is a distinguished professional with a multifaceted background spanning various domains within the medical and public health spheres. With an extensive skill set encompassing clinical practice, research, statistical analysis, and project management, he has made significant contributions to areas such as HIV/AIDS, non-communicable diseases (NCDs), mental health, infectious diseases, and research involving key populations. Having undergone rigorous training and mentorship, including a prestigious NIH-Fogarty global health fellowship, Ouma brings a wealth of expertise in research methodologies, leadership, and scientific inquiry. At JSC, his areas of interest are clinical research, implementation science, and project evaluation.
Currently, he is also an African fellow at Stellenbosch University, engaged in groundbreaking work at GALENOS, focusing on evidence synthesis related to anxiety, depression, and psychosis, under the guidance of renowned scientists. Previously spearheaded a large-scale evaluation of PEPFAR-funded projects through TASO Uganda LTD. He is also an editor for PLoS One and a peer reviewer for BMJ Open, BMC Public Health, and PLoS Global Health.
He graduated with a MBChB from Gulu University-Uganda, MPH from Makerere University-Uganda, MSc Statistics for Clinical Trials from University College London-UK, and a Ph.D. candidacy at Makerere University-Uganda. Outside of professional endeavors, Dr. Ouma finds joy in gardening, socializing with friends, and embarking on scenic drives to rural areas—a testament to his well-rounded personality and appreciation for life outside of work.
