The Research Field Coordinator is the primary contact between JSC and the enumerators and participants. His/her role is central to the success of the organization’s field operations. They are the organization’s face and reputation in the community and manage the relationships with participants and community leaders. The Research Field Coordinator works full-time in the field and reports to a Research Team Leader. This role does not manage any other staff.

The Research Field Coordinator will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful planning, implementation, and completion of research projects in the State while upholding ethical standards, fostering community engagement, and navigating operational challenges.

Reports to: Research Team Leader (Juba)

Responsibilities:

  1. Community Engagement and Liaison: Serve as the main point of contact between JSC and the local community, fostering positive relationships with participants and leaders.
  2. Field Operations Management: Oversee logistical aspects of fieldwork, including transportation, accommodation, and participant recruitment, ensuring smooth project implementation.
  3. Ethical Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure research activities adhere to ethical standards and regulations while identifying and mitigating potential risks to the research team and participants.
  4. Data Collection Oversight: Supervise data collection processes, maintaining quality control measures and upholding research protocols.
  5. Stakeholder Communication: Facilitate communication and collaboration with local stakeholders, seeking their input and cooperation to support research initiatives.
  6. Capacity Building and Training: Support and train local staff and enumerators, enhancing their research skills and promoting sustainability in research efforts.
  7. Reporting and Documentation: Maintain accurate records of field activities, compile and conduct quality checks of research data, and communicate findings effectively to relevant stakeholders and the Research Team Leader.

What you bring:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field such as public health, social sciences, international development, or a related discipline.
  • At least 3 years of experience
  • Familiarity with quantitative and qualitative data collection methodologies, including electronic data collection, and the ability to oversee data collection processes and ensure data quality and integrity.
  • Prior experience working in field research or community engagement settings and supervising field teams, particularly in South Sudan or similar contexts.
  • You have a demonstrated ability to manage field operations, including logistics, managing field budgets, and timelines, to ensure the successful implementation of research projects.
  • Knowledge of local languages may be advantageous for effective communication with community members.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
